Team Trees and Sea

                                                           Combating climate change

Team Seas

Hello everyone my name is Jake Uetz and today I'll be talking about two organizations that tried to make a difference and help put an end to climate change. These two groups are Team Seas and Team Trees.

Teams Seas was an international collaborative fundraiser campaign launched by 2 YouTubers MrBeast and Mark Rober. Their goal was simple to remove trash from the oceans rivers and beaches. The project's goal aimed to remove 30 million pounds of trash by raising 30 million dollars. The model was straightforward for everyone one dollar donated 1 pound of trash was removed from the sea. The project was a massive success with over 400.000 YouTubers collaborating with Team Seas their goal of 30 million dollars was passed meeting a record of 34 million pounds of trash removed from the sea. during this fundraiser 2 major organizations worked to make this goal a reality Ocean conservation and The Ocean clean up these two organizations split the donations and worked to remove trash from the sea rivers and oceans.  Mr Beast and mark Rober started teams seas because they understood how polluted our seas rivers and oceans were and they had the power to do something about it. They knew with their massive social popularity they could get the word out about Team Seas. Now with everything about climate change seeming to be bad news, this was something that gave me hope for the future even though team seas was done all the way back in 2021 there are organizations still continuing to try and make our planet a healthy place. As we have seen with the 34 million dollar donations people want to help make climate change go away and if you are someone who wants to do something even a little then donations to team seas is still ongoing as well as other organizations for cleaning up the seas specifically. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXDx6DjNLDU) here is the thought process and way one of the founders of Team Seas Mark Rober went about Team Seas.

Now as amazing as Team Seas was this was actually the second major climate change project Mr beast and Mark Rober worked on their first-ever project was called Team Trees

Team Trees was a collaborative fundraising campaign launched in October 2019 to plant 20 million trees. This idea began when a fan challenged Mr Beast to plant 20 million trees to celebrate 20 million YouTube subscribers

Key Details

Goal Raise $20 million to plant 20 million trees
Partners: Arbor Day Foundation
Donation model $1 per tree planted
Participants Over 800,000 people

The Campaign was a success it raised over 22 million and planted trees across six continents. The environmental impact was significant with an estimated 23 million trees covering 210 km of land and Potential to absorb around 1.6 million tons of carbon. Removal of 116,000 tons of atmospheric pollutants. The project was completed by December 2022, planting trees in 30 countries and 11 U.S. states including areas affected by wildfires and regions needing reforestation. The main reason team trees are so important is because trees are one of the main things that significantly impact climate change trees play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. A mature tree can absorb approximately half a metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent in one year.

  1. Hey Jake,
I love what you wrote here. It is so inspiring to see that people with influence are trying to support our planet rather than make it worse. Is there a way that we as the little people of the world can participate and aid?

  2. It is great to see people that have a lot of influence on the next generation showing their support for environmental protection. Not only raising alarm but going out and making an impact. My question is that is this an ongoing project or is it finished now that they have reached their goal?

  3. Thank you for sharing this good news. It is so easy to get caught up in the bad news that you miss the good news. It is such a good idea for people with big influences to step up and do something like this. I hope to see more billionaires, millionaires, and other influential people do the same.

  4. This was nicely summarized, and it is always nice to see that those who have social capital might use it for good. With the uptrend in social media influencers who may make more money than they know what to do with, these actions and support may be the best option for them. I hope these two men who were able to do a lot of good continue a trend for others to follow suit. Unfortunately acts that improve our climate often need to be popular or trendy for a lot of people to get involved. These two initiatives are a really good start in that direction.

  5. This was a great find! It makes me so happy to see influencers making a positive change with their platforms. These two teams seem to be making a huge difference and I am surely going to look into these names.

  6. It is amazing to see that there are influencers recognizing and working to both raise awareness and inspire actual change about climate-related issues. I am curious to see if more influencers will follow suit.

  7. Your blog entry is really encouraging! It's incredible to observe how well-known individuals like MrBeast and Mark Rober have used their platforms to develop such powerful environmental movements. In the battle against climate change, Team Seas and Team Trees are excellent instances of how group efforts and creative financing may have a significant impact.

  8. I think the Team Trees approach is going to have more climate impact than Team Seas.
