Converting Petrol Vehicles to electric, the new wave

Within the past couple years, I have noticed a trend that the younger people are doing to the cars and bikes they drive (and even quads and side by sides). Electrification of vehicles is not new but the buying of electric batteries and electric motors and control harnesses to build your own self-made electrified vehicle instead of going to a place like Tesla (which isn't the best idea in the world right now, different story all-together) and paying almost 100,000 bucks you can buy parts over time and would be cheaper to build at home. Right after the Elon Musk fiasco with the salute I've noticed that not only is the Tesla wave dying down but the rise of "home-made electro mechanics" have become so popular all on YouTube and the forums that this movement has become hard to ignore.

Companies like www.vicorpower.com, shincorporated, electroandcompany and other companies are here to help people with the dream of converting these gas powered vehicles into electric BEASTS. The reasons behind this are people are converting gas-powered cars into electric vehicles (EVs) because they offer environmental benefits, lower energy costs, minimal maintenance, and better performance. The switch to EVs reduces carbon emissions and smog-forming air pollution. And the process of converting a gas-powered car to an electric vehicle can be a rewarding hobby for car enthusiasts, not to mention the performance and power of electric vehicles themselves. Plus, the range of the machines seems to be going up from the factory AND aftermarket modifications realm where we gear heads tend to take up residence.

Proof of these acts being cared out by younger and older people who know better who are converting gas powered to electric is all over social media to show people in the USA, Europe, Canada, Asian markets etc. Electric bike shops are also showing up in places, even in Grand Rapids, Michigan (check out Pedego Electric Bikes Grand Rapids for more details) Kalamazoo will soon have those same type of shops soon I'm sure because buying e rides or building e rides in your own garage seems to be (or is) the future for people who want off of the planet choking emissions we still try to justify and make excuses for. If you have time to check out these videos of people actually converting bikes and quads and stuff.

  1. It will be interesting to see what our vehicles look like and what they run off in ten to twenty years. People one hundred years ago assumed we would have flying cars by now but we cannot even seem to all agree that we need cars that run on something more eco-friendly than gasoline.

  2. It's cool to see people, especially younger generations, taking sustainability into their own hands. It's inspiring to see how creative and innovative people are getting to fight emissions and make transportation cleaner.

  3. Ey, may as well take the matters into our own hands if the big corporations and special interests won't do it. I'm all for this new movement towards converting gas-powered vehicles to electric systems, as it's what may well be needed for the switch to renewables. If it goes mainstream, it's a good way to cut gas emissions while also reducing automobiles being sent to scrapyards to rust.
I do have some concerns about the conversion technology being both affordable and accessible, and about how widely it can be applied. I hope there will be efforts to make this a technology that most everyone can afford and implement.

  4. Thats really cool that companies are turning gas guzzling vehicles into electric beasts, and that hopefully sooner than later we can move away from petrol fueled vehicles.

  6. my question is say we get electric cars that are amazing and even better than gas cars. How will we get people to get rid of their gas cars and change from gas stations to electric stations?

    1. Personally I know that while EV's are more affordable in the long run, the initial high price makes it difficult for many working class families to afford. I think that if we had an administration that supported their production and assited with making them more affordable many more people would be open to the idea, it tends to always come down to the money. And we know that its possible because from what we've heard in class China is doing an excellent job at popularizing them.

  7. It's great to hear about these electric alternatives, I don't foresee myself being able to afford a brand new electric car anytime soon so I appreciate the increase in electric bike popularity and availability.

  8. I am excited to see innovation with efficiency in electric vehicles. Right now the mining demand is so high for the precious metals that go in to building batteries. I would like to see people create batteries that require less resources and materials. I am happy that young people take into account ethical concerns when purchasing a car instead of just buying the most aesthetically appealing things on the market.

  10. It would be interesting to see how people slowly move over to DIY projects to be their mode of green transportation. If more people got interested in this, then we could make a serious change or even a market.

  11. It’s great to see more people getting into electric vehicle conversions it’s a smart and creative way to help the environment. I’d love to learn more about the pros and cons, but it’s clear this movement is growing fast, even here in Michigan!

  13. My nephew got an electric bike recently! I am happy to see more conversation sparking around alternative electric vehicles that may be useful to those currently unable to purchase an electric car.

  14. Converting existing gas cars into electric ones is a good idea! It would simultaneously cut down on waste from production and pollution from use.

  15. This is a very cool concept, and I love the idea of recycling and reusing already existing gas powered cars so that they are still operational but no longer require burning gas.

  16. Colombia has a law that if your license plate ends in an odd number then you are not allowed to drive that day or sometimes a certain time of day. This helps reduce emissions and demand for gasoline. But if you drive a moped or gas-powered bike then you can drive any day and any time.

  17. Wow! What a very informative, active, and interesting post. I had no idea that cars could be changed into electric and manually powered. This might be something I do in the future to protect the environment and also save money. I read some of the comments on this post and was also interested in some states limiting drivers daily by license plates to hear about s and other restrictions.

  18. I didn't know that people were converting their own vehicles to electric power, but it definitely sounds like an amazing idea financially and environmentally as long as it is done safely.
