Recently, environmental organizations have been faced with major challenges due to President Trump's freeze on their funding and threats of criminal investigations. Many of these groups focus on helping less fortunate communities and help with combating climate change. They are now worried about potential audits and legal issues. Concerns have grown since reports revealed that the Trump administration required nonprofits to submit all communications with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other funding-related documents.
In response to the funding freeze, some foundations are stepping in to help. The MacArthur Foundation has committed to increasing its support for nonprofits by $150 million over the next two years. However, experts caution that philanthropy alone cannot replace the crucial federal funding needed for a successful transition to clean energy. Many environmental justice groups have a history of operating without government support and may have to return to that model if necessary. The fight for environmental justice continues, but the future remains uncertain amid these challenges.
I am floored that Trump is allowed to demand that nonprofits turn over all communications and funding documents with the EPA, it's insane the power he has to destroy years of hard work combating climate change. I hope that whoever comes after him will do better for our environment.
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy that the funding of environmental groups has been frozen, especially with all of the information that they have gained over the last couple of years. I feel with everything else going on in the world we forget this is happening. Thank you for reminding us.
ReplyDeleteSeeing how more and more people are throwing lawsuits at Trump and his actions just goes to show how many people are not happy with all the changes that are happening.
ReplyDeleteWe truly are living in history being made, and unfortunately its not the type of history where people celebrate in the end. We are watching Trump burn down our future all the while he will not be here to see his kids or even his grandkids suffer from what he plunged us into.
ReplyDeleteIt is one thing to place a federal hiring freeze, fire people essential to the organization, and completely defund their efforts, but to criminally prosecute people just trying to do the right thing is abhorrent. I cannot imagine what type of regime Trump has in store for the next four years, and I wish we didn't have to face it.
ReplyDeleteThis is reassuring information about the Mcarthur Foundation, but you make a very important note that it is not a proper substitute, and philanthropy should not be the solution.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned the lawsuits increasing against president Trump but unfortunately I don't think those affect him much. Some of these billionaires sue each other and then go have lunch the next day. It is absolutely mind boggling.

ReplyDeleteThe fact that we are supposed to have faith in a system that is led by a man actively taking away funding that protects the most vulnerable aspects of our lives is terrifying to say the least.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that one person's opinions can affect so many people all over our country. People are slowly losing faith in our government system, and I don't blame them. There is too much power to the bad people. My parents have always told me that they can't get on top without doing bad things. It's disappointing.

ReplyDeleteDid you see what just happened to the important environmental group Greenpeace? They were sued by a huge oil pipeline company for hundreds of millions of dollars and a small town Dakota jury voted for the pipeline company.

ReplyDeleteIt's good to see the MacArthur Foundation has stepped in and has goals of increasing funding whereas most other agencies are decreasing if not totally cutting funds.
